Agreeing a brief

For all work, we will need to agree a brief that identifies:

  • Your understanding of the task to be undertaken and the objectives you seek to achieve by employing a consultant.
  • The timetable, for start and completion of the work.
  • Any arrangements for review during the course of the project.
  • What you will provide to ensure that I can complete the work to your satisfaction (in terms of materials and access to people).
  • What I will do and what I will deliver to you.
  • Who within your organisation is responsible for leading the project and liaison with me.
  • The basis on which fees will be paid (whether fixed price or on a daily rate).

Fees and expenses

  • The daily rate is currently £550 per day (based on a 7 hour day) or £80 per hour for part days. These fees will be reviewed from time to time and amendments posted on the website. Fee rates will not be changed during the course of any commission.
  • Expenses will only be incurred with prior agreement (e.g. for standard class travel, subsistence or any special materials purchased) and will be charged at cost. Travel within Greater London will not normally be charged as an expense. One copy of any interim and final report will be provided within the normal payment. Additional copies will be charged as an expense. Car travel will be charged at 50 pence per mile and will not normally be used in Central London (the congestion charge zone) unless there are special reasons.
  • Where work is explicitly required at the weekend or after 7.00 p.m. in the evening it will attract a 20% surcharge.

Payment

  • The brief for the commission will include details of the arrangements for payment and any stage payments required.
  • For a commission of 8 days or more, 30% of the fee will be payable on commencement of the project.
  • An invoice will be provided when payment is due.
  • Invoices should be paid within 15 days. We reserve the right to charge 3% above the Bank of England base rate on the balance of any payments not received with 21 days of invoice.

Cancellations

  • If planned work is cancelled by you within 21 days of the due starting date we reserve the right to charge the agreed fee.
